Orphanage fire: Orissa simmers, curfew clamped Jajati Karan / CNN-IBN Published on Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 09:00, Updated at Tue, Aug 26, 2008 in Nation section Bhubaneswar: Orissa continued to remain under a state of high alert on Tuesday morning after an orphanage run by Christian missionaries was set ablaze on Monday night, sparking violence. Curfew was imposed in Phulbani, Baliguda, Tumbdibandh and Nuagon areas in the communally-sensitive Kandhamal district and situation remained tense in various pockets of Bargarh, Sundergarh, Koraput, Boudh and Sambalpur districts as well. Two companies of the Rapid Action Force were rushed to Kandhamal by the Central Government and six additional companies were reported to be on their way. At least six churches were set on fire across the state during Monday’s bandh, out of which eight were in Kandhamal. The various district administration in the communal-sensitive areas were asked to form “peace committees” to ensure the situation remained under control. What happened on Monday The orphanage was located near the Khutapalli police station at Bargarh and Rajni, 20-year-old teacher and caretaker of the orphanage, was burnt alive as protestors set the building on fire. According to police, Rajni had an argument with a mob of over 700 people, all of them reported to be VHP and Bajrang Dal supporters. The mob evacuated 22 children from the orphanage and allegedly threw Rajni in to the fire. The Father of the orphanage, Eduaro Secury, tried to save her in vain and was injured. “They beat me with sticks, hands belts,” Secury told CNN-IBN. Four people were killed in riots on Christmas eve last year in Kandhamal over religious conversion of tribals in the state by Christian missionaries and re conversion by VHP activists. The VHP and the BJP observed a total bandh in the state on Monday, with religious communities including the Christian Forum condemning the attacks. "One has to understand the core issue to address the problem. Religious conversion has been going on and no is stopping it,” said BJD MP Thatagat Satpathy. I ask, “Who is responsible for the communal tensions in Orissa? Why should Christian missionaries convert Hindus?? Will the Christians keep quite if you try to convert their flock into Hinduism or Islam??? And even for that matter, into Roman Catholicism?” The fault lies with the Christian missionaries. They should STOP converting Hindus into their religion. PLEASE NOTE: CHRISTIAN religion IS totally different from ROMAN CATHOLIC religion.
