J-K govt works out compromise formula, PDP acts pricey
CNN-IBNPublished on Sat, Aug 30, 2008 at 10:46, Updated at Sat, Aug 30, 2008 in Nation section

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government seems to have worked out a compromise formula on the Amarnath land row.

Sources tell CNN-IBN this involves allowing a temporary use of 100-acre land to the Amarnath Shrine board for a three-month period every year.

The Governor-appointed panel gave its nod ahead of the fourth round of talks with the Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti in Jammu.

According to the deal, the land will be handed over only for the two-month period of the yatra, plus an additional month for setting up and removing pre-set shelters.

The formula was on the anvil for a while, but talks were stalled over the wording of the deal.

An official statement is yet to come. Meanwhile, the Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti is planning a massive rally in Jammu on Sunday.

But in the Kashmir valley, the PDP has already expressed its displeasure. Party chief Mehbooba Mufti says the party will not accept any unilateral decision on resolving the crisis.

Mufti Mohammed Sayeed had met the Prime Minister last Sunday and urged him to consult Kashmiris before inking any deal with the Sangharsh Samiti.

The Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti should reject outright the Jammu and Kashmir government’s compromise formula on the Amarnath land row.

For whom is the govt. giving temporary use of 100-acre land for a three-month period every year, to beggars or Indians?

The Amarnath Shrine board should also reject this compromise formula.

What we need is a permanent solution. Indecisiveness on the part of govt. for a lasting solution exposes the role of the govt. policies of pleasing the so-called Minority vote bank.
