I am Ananya.S.Guha, and I am delighted to be a member of Voice Of Ambition.I live in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, a beautiful hill station where the whispers of pine trees resonate with its wooded forests and hills. This has been a fount of inspiration to me since my childhood.
By profession I am an academic adminstrator and am working in the Indira Gandhi National Open University, till recently I have been the Regional Director of the Shillong Centre.I have now taken over as one of the Joint Directors of the university, and will soon make my way to the capital of India.Of course I will miss the pristine 'solitude' of Shillong.
Voice Of India is a grand concept, I am an advocate of the radio as being an integral part of community development:educational and aesthetic.
I write poetry too. Who won't in these idyllic settings? Nostalgia, nature, human relationships are some of my themes.

Hi Ananya,
Your thoughts have made me nostalgic and feel like catching next flight and land on the soil in India. We need people who just don't appreciate being Indian, we need people to change their basic attitude of caste, status and indifference and be more tolerant and project a "honest" image all across the globe.

Hi Ananya,

I was wondering if you could post some of your poems based on your themes.

Atleast, I would be more than happy to read and understand them.

Just by saying "a beautiful hill station where the whispers of pine trees resonate with its wooded forests and hills" you made me feel as if I were in there, virtually though...no doubt you are poet.

I do understand as to what would be the pain to depart from native place and that too which is of such beauty and peace.

I am basically from a village background and till date I recollect all those memories (I mean even after moving to city in childhoood) which I spent as a child in my village, the fresh air, innocent and caring people by heart and not just by words, lot of greenary of crops around, the hulchal when the crop comes home, the festivals, the rituals performed on various occassions, peaceful atmosphere, where people live very close to nature..many more.....its really too good and at the same time too bad to miss them all, but unfortunately I dont have much poetic skills like you to express my thoughts...

Did you write anything on changing scenario in the villages....?

This poem set in the hills
I catch in my lighter moments
though these moments are no longer
light, as I grapple with a poem
in the midst of riverines, and undulating hills,
in the midst of forests of fire,
in the midst of these pine clad hills,
I have known, talked to them, they
know my infancy, and me theirs
as an infant child I felt their whisper
telling me
we are alive
the hills are alive, they can never die
among dead rotten stones
and if they do
they will pursue you,
strangulate, you and they
are the same part of an infinite truth
don't you know?
I nodded, numb, as the hills
angel like dissapeared into
the precipices of  a  cavernous mind.

Hi All,
Greetings from Noob  Grin

Ananya - what is it like to live in beautiful shillong - Like day to day life, cost of living, housing etc.,
Is it easy for a person from other parts of India to assimilate into Meghalayan life?

And btw - nice poem.
